During the one year compulsory Youth service programme in Delta state, Nigeria, between 1998 to 1999, I was awarded the “best youth Corper” because of my involvement in the area where Nutrition based workshops, seminars and intervention programmes were organized at my cost. Primary health centres were visited and complementary foods were formulated from indigenous food items such as local maize gruel with processed soybean and millet and they were made available to women with children of over six months weekly for about two weeks. Seminars held at various secondary schools where they were counseled on varied topics ranging from prevention of teenage pregnancy, adequate food consumption for teenagers. This improved the protein and micro nutrient status of the infants which nurses and other health workers confirmed after the exercise. Educational programmes and outreaches within the community we organized by me and many residents were educated about the benefit of healthy feeding pattern after checking their body mass index, blood pressure and blood glucose. Diets were recommended based on their assessment reports. I attended self-sponsored Nutrition conferences in the United States of America in 2017 and Europe in 2015 where papers were presented. In October 2020, I won a Bill Gates grant to take part in virtual symposium titled-Optimizing Nutrition for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health and a paper titled food consumption pattern and intake of mothers of age (25-50) in Alimosho local government area of Lagos state was presented. Last year my paper was accepted and presented at the Nutrition Society conference which took place at Sheffield Hallam University, Sheffield and many scholars applauded the effort and paper published the proceeding.
